Kids rooms are near the top of my list of favorite spaces to decorate. There is much freedom in designing a place for little ones. But sometimes creating a room where siblings are sharing can be tricky, especially when they’re of the opposite sex. If you’re new to the blog, you probably don’t know my friend, Laura. If you aren’t, you know that Laura and I are design kindred spirits. No matter what the project one of us has going, you can bet that the other has her hand in the design and decisions. It’s just so much more fun to collaborate. And it’s also nice to have someone to talk you down from a rouge idea or talk you up to a wild hair that is actually genius.

Laura has two kids, Liam who is 8 and Olive who is 5. They live in an historic house right down the street from Harry Truman’s home, and it’s full of charm and wonderful designher living room and those built-ins are still one of my all time favorite projects. The kids had separate rooms, but every night Olive would sneak in to sleep with her big brother. So Laura took this space from bunks and all-things-boy to a beautiful mix of playful sophistication that any child, boy or girl, could enjoy.

The little alcove turned dress up area for Olive is probably my favorite part. The blush pink curtains give a girl some privacy when needed, and the vanity doubles as an area to create Olive is a budding artistlike her mama.

Oh my…the space is so good! When I was young I shared a room with my twin brother. He had blue sheets & I had pink. That was the extent of decorating my mother did for us.You guys should open a design business together. You’re a great team.

Love that, Mary! And funny you should say that…we have been taking on some clients together and it’s definitely on our radar. ??

Thanks for sharing! I love combined bedrooms like this. In the upcoming source post, I would love to know the maker of and where to find the lovely blue and white floral wallpaper!

I knew I had seen it somewhere before. Their catalogue is impossible to look through, but there are some diamonds in the rubble ??

The world is small, Gwen. I went to Laura’s “About” page and realized I’ve been to her husband’s church. A dear friend invited me over a year ago and it was a very positive experience (I actually framed a prayer card that was passed out that day…was something I needed to hear in that moment). Her home looks beautiful…can definitely see the Gwen touch. Hope you all have a relaxing weekend. -s

Truly love this space. What a happy place to be. I’ve been on the hunt for round coat hooks. Are yours from CB2?

The red with the blush and powder blue and French blue and indigo are such a fun combination! I would love to know where the headboards are from and the big Buffalo check pillows!

Lovely, lovely, space, and nice to see an evolved little man getting down with that much pink on behalf of his little sister (or maybe he’s into, too, and more power to him!).

The headboards were actually a Craigslist score that got a new upholstery job. Aren’t they beautiful?! The pillows are Studio McGee. Can’t wait to share the whole list!

Ah I’m in love with that small pink globe lamp. I saw it on Emily Hendersons blog in white and I know its target style but it’s unavailable online and within 100 miles of me, and I love just outside NYC! Ohhh the torture. Any ideas if it’ll be available soon?

When you do the source list would you mind listing the black and white boxes that are on the shelf?Job well done as always!!!Thank you…Jillian

Hi Jillian! You can find the list here: http://www.themakerista.com/boy-girl-shared-room-sources/. Unfortunately those boxes were a Target find a few years back. But they usually have some other great options, especially around Christmastime!
