I had intended on having this post ready to go early this morning, and then lo and behold…life happened. Robert took the past two days off work to enjoy some family time and give us a chance to take a trip to the zoo, which was tons of fun! Sometimes I have to remind myself that the makeovers can wait whilewe make memories. Little miss Livie Bug was so excited to see all of the animals. The monkeys were her favorite, naturally.

Yesterday, I shared the challenge I faced in finding the perfect paint color for Olivia’s upcoming bedroom makeover along with tips I’ve learned along the way in making a few mistakes in the past. So here’s what we chose!

The color is Benjamin Moore Grey Owl and I’m SO glad I went with my gut on this one. My original gallon I’d bought of Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray was pretty, but it wasn’t what I had in mind.

So now Robert and I can start on the fun part- decorating! And by Robert and I, I mean that I’ll be sweet talking him into cutting wood and nailing up things for projects. ?? He’s excited about jazzing up this room too though.

You’re about to see my big crush on RH Baby and Child because almost everything I have in mind has come from their website.

This won’t be the most beautiful post in the world or anything, but I wanted you to see some ideas I have swimming around.

I keep debating if I want to put her canopy back up. I’ve had the idea to upholster alittle French chair I found recently in her French Stamp fabric and hanging up a white canopy instead. Or forgoing the canopy altogether and hanging a pair of angel wings above her bed. (In acheaper, DIYed version of course.)

For above her dresser, Olivia’s talented uncle sketched a ballerina that I’ve been trying to think up the perfect spot for. I’ll probably hang it in place of the mirror.

Since it’s nowhere nearly as big as the mirror though, I might flank it with a couple of framed dresses that Olivia wore in her baby days. (*tear)

For this big, blank wall beside Olivia’s bed, I’m going to hang her mirror close to the floor there instead and attach a barre to the wall. This child apparently takes after me because she’ll dance across a room any time the mood strikes her.

On either side of the mirror, I would love to make some oversized sheet music plaques with lyrics to the song “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack. The words in the song are so fitting for a little girl’s room.

Olivia has inherited a huge box of costumes and vintage clothes from my ballet dancing days and her grandmother/great-grandmother, so a rack will be perfect. I’ll probably hang a shelf above it for hats and knick-knacks too.

Robert and I have talked about adding molding around it similarly to how we did our bathroom window. I’ll hang either white or pink curtain panels too. And, if it’s in the budget, I’d like a woven shade.

When we first moved into this house, I had the hardest time figuring outthe look I wanted in this room (and next time, Olivia will most likely be in charge). So I added a more modern Ikea light in here.

Now, I’m thinking a chandelier would be more fitting. Who knows, maybe I’ll get a lucky find in a thrift store. This one below from RH Baby and Child is gorgeous! And could be so easy to replicateusing an old brass light and chalk paint.

For the open floor space between her bed and dresser, I would like to add a soft, patterned rug. I’ll have to be on the lookout for the perfect one (that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, of course).

Are you envisioning it yet? At least we have furniture in here thanks to a lucky cheap-obed and dresser find from the thrift store, and we sold her crib and baby dresser to help with the cost. Every penny counts.

I think her room will be gorgeous. I think a white canopy(RH child has one behind a bed with a mirror) or the angels wings would be lovely. I loved your idea of using the fabric you had on the wall to cover a french chair. Great place to cuddle and read stories. I think the curtains would be lovely in white or pink or maybe a pink and white stripe. The framed music, Livi’s baby dress in a shadow boxd and ballet bar and mirror add wonderful layers of texture and depth as well as connection, family and a room to grow in to. I’m sure Livi will love it. My Livi wants to share a room with her boys(brothers) which i understand being triplets they want to be together. Though I look forward to her wanting her own room and have a growing collection of furniture and decorations for when the time comes.

That’s so sweet that she wants to stay with her brothers! Precious. I bet your hands are full! Thanks for your input, Relle. I’m thinking in the same direction as you are.

I am loving all the plans you have for your daughter’s room. I mean a ballerina mirror and bar…what little girl wouldn’t love that. How cute!! And yea, I think you could totally DIY a cheap brass chandelier to look just like that RH one. I bet you could find a cheap/good one on Craigslist. ?? Can’t wait to see how it all turns out.

Thanks, Shelby! I would have DIED for a mirror and ballerina barre in my room when I was little. I’m most definitely keeping my eye out for a brass chancelier on Craigslist. I see them all the time at thrift stores too. So you better believe I’ll be scooping one up when I find the perfect one.

Olivia has got to be the luckiest little girl out there!! This is so the room that I would have wanted to have as a young ballerina. Framing the dresses will be such a great keepsake….I love seeing items that we save displayed and actually enjoyed rather than just stored in a box. Can’t wait to see how this room comes together!

Right?! I’m basically designing my dream room I would have wanted when I was little. My mom did a good job designing mine too though. I have to decorate it while she’ll let me. ?? And I’m the same way with displaying keepsakes. I make shadowboxes all the time because I can’t bear to keep everything hidden in a box in a closet. It’s more fun to have on a wall somewhere. Thanks for the love girl!

Lots of great ideas! I think it’s going to be a beautiful room decorated with much love. I especially love the clothes rack, dress up was always one of my kids favorites and the dress up clothes are some of the items I still keep at my house for kids/grandkids who visit now that my kids are grown. Almost every child loves dress up and a lot of grownups too.

Thank you! I’m not gonna lie…I love dress up too. Haha It’ll be a lot of fun once we get it built. ??

Thank you, Theresa! So sorry for the delay in my responding to you. For some reason your comment didn’t show up right away. Those curtains are cute! She has one that looks just like that as her shower curtain and it’s adorable. Thanks for the invite to your party! I’ll have to pop over there when it goes live again.

When I was little, I was obsessed with all things ballerina! She is one lucky little lady, it’s going to be gorgeous!Happy Easter!Karen

I was too, Karen! And I sort of still am…hence this makeover. Haha A very happy Easter to you and yours too!

You ended up with the perfect paint color!! Can’t wait to see how it all turns out, especially the dress up rack ??

Hi Amber! I used Valspar brand from their Signature line. You can just tell the people at the paint counter at Lowe’s that you want Valspar Signature paint in the color Benjamin Moore Gray Owl and they can do it for you. ?? They have the color coding in their computers for all kinds of colors, even brands of paint they don’t carry.
